What to expect at your first meeting

You will be greeted by one of our friendly and sympathetic clerks, all of whom have experienced weight problems of their own. You will need to complete a registration and health form and your height will be measured. All your personal details, including your weight are treated with complete confidentiality. You will then go to the scales to meet your Welsh-Weigh Consultant.Photo of Welsh-Weigh member having body stat test

Because we all burn calories at different rates, at your first weigh-in you will have a simple Body Composition Analysis Test. The Body Composition Analysis Test - known as a 'Body Stat' - is quick, effective and extremely accurate. It simply involves standing on the scales for about 30 seconds, without footwear, whilst being weighed. The highly sophisticated computerised scales will immediately give a print-out of the results as shown here. You will be given a copy of this to keep for your records.

The Body Stat test calculates your Basic Metabolic Rate - the rate at which your body burns calories. This will give the amount of calories that you can eat in order to achieve a weight loss. It will also calculate:

This is very encouraging for those whose weight loss may seem slow because they are developing muscle, have a slow metabolism or suffer from fluid retention. As weight alone does not give the whole picture, this test can be repeated regularly to see the progress you have made as your fat percentage comes down as a result of healthier eating habits.

After weighing your consultant will give you a New Member Pack and the Registration Clerk will spend time explaining the Food Plan to you and answering any queries and concerns. You will be given a telephone number for your Consultant, which you are encouraged to ring if you have any private concerns you wish to discuss or need any further advice.
